Maruti Suzuki has finally launched its latest mini SUV in India, the Maruti S-Presso. It is designed in India, thus bolstering the Make in India initiative by the government.
Maruti S-Presso exterior
Maruti S-Presso is built on the fifth generation of their HEARTRECT platform. To ensure a stronger and sturdier structure, 40% high tensile steel is used.
Although it falls in the mini SUV segment, the upright A-pillar, along with the rear door design, make it look like a SUV. The door sills are lifted upwards, and the wheel arches are squared. The C-signature tail lamps are wider and comparatively higher.

The dashboard is said to have been inspired from rugged sports watches. The digital speedometer sits at the top. It is followed by the touchscreen infotainment system at the bottom and is Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatible.
The cabin space is mostly black but is accentuated by bright colors here and there. Audio and video controls are mounted on the steering wheel. The seat belts come with pre-tensioners and force limiters.
Under the hood
Maruti S-Presso runs on a 1 litre K10 engine. It is Bharat Standard 6 (BS6) compliant. It is equipped with manual as well as auto gear shift options.
It delivers a maximum torque of 90 Nm at 3500 rpm, and a maximum power of 50 kW at 5500 rpm. The fuel efficiency is measured at 21.7 kmpl for Vxi and Vxi+ trims, and 21.4 kmpl for Standard and Lxi variants.
Other features include frontal offset crash, side impact with pedestrian safety, dual airbags, ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution), seat belt reminders, high speed warning alert, and rear parking assist including reverse parking sensors.
Maruti S-Presso comes in six color variants, viz. blue, grey, orange, red, silver and white.
