At an event held in Jaipur yesterday evening, the committee for the JCB Prize for Literature has announced this year’s winner. Out of the six shortlisted titles, one now emerges as the winner of the 25 lacs INR literary prize.

JCB Prize for Literature

“The Far Field” critically examines the Indian politics and the class prejudices prevalent in the country. It is about a woman who sets out on a journey to find her late mother’s long lost friend. She eventually lands in Kashmir amidst political turmoil. The book was published by Harper Collins India.

Madhuri Vijay was born and brought up in Bengaluru, India. She now lives in Hawaii, where she is a school teacher. This is her debut book.
