Indian wrestler Bajrang Punia bagged a bronze medal in the World Wrestling Championships on Friday in Nur-Sultan to claim his third World Championships medal. Punia defeated Mongolian under-23 Asian champion Tumur Ochir (8-7) in Nur-Sultan in a close fight.
Bajrang had a tough start at the match with Ochir leading from the front as he took a 6-0 lead in the beginning but later Bajrang showed some powerful moves in the second half to rule out the Mongolian.
With this bronze medal in his kitty, Bajrang became the only Indian wrestler to have won three medal at the World Championships.
In addition to that, wrestler Ravi Dahiya too made his international debut by winning a bronze in the championship. Ravi won the medal in 57kg freestyle category by beating the reigning Asian champion from Iran Reza Ahmadali Atrinagharchi (6-3).
This was India’s third medal of the championships, though all the three are bronze. Earlier, India’s celebrated women wrestler Vinesh Phogat had also won a bronze in women’s 53 kg event.
Earler, India had claimed three medals at the World Championship in 2013 when Amit Dahiya, Bajrang and Sandeep Tulsi Yadav made India proud.
